Concrete mixer trucks work through a process of mixing and agitating cement. These unique trucks are filled with dry materials and water, which are then mixed together while in transit.
The key to a concrete mixer truck is that the cement remains in a liquid state through the constant turning of the drum during transportation. This allows the concrete to be poured directly from the truck. During transportation, the drum rotates during what’s known as the charging process. Once the mixer arrives at a job site, the rotation is reversed into discharge mode to force the concrete mix out of the mixer. The concrete is guided through a series of chutes to where it needs to be poured. From here, the concrete can be smoothed out by hand and left to set.
